Violet, I have to give you credit—and an A+ for the semester*—on this response. You invested a lot time and energy in this piece. It’s thoughtful and well-reasoned. And most importantly, you afforded the intended recipient of your letter far more respect than she (un)/knowingly granted People of Color who might have stumbled across her screed. You’re a better person than me.

This is a prime example of the broad type of love I mention at the bottom of my pieces. You care enough about TSS, the issue at hand, and your own standing to withhold a knee-jerk reaction full of subtle quips and open-handed jibes at her expense.

Engaging in conversations about race with respect and care will win the day.

I have to believe that. And it seems in this instance, you do, too!

Good for you … because Lord knows sometimes I just have keep on scrollin’ when I can’t be bothered.

*that’s not to sound professorial, it just means you went above and beyond and did it well
