Salome, this writing thing is a bit limited as a means of communication in that it’s a two-dimensional medium conveying at best the obvious information within the words, the way they’re strung together, and punctuated, etc.; and even that’s subject to interpretation. This leaves room for a whole lot of other stuff to be filled in or even missed.

Let me fill in the blanks a little.

Lest you think that your response to my essay is given a cursory glance and “happenstance-ed” click (yes, I morphed that noun into a verb) of the green heart, please know that is not the case at all. Reading comments like yours makes my heart smile. They bring a broad grin to takes up almost the whole of my face. At the same time, they bring a sense of purpose to my writing coupled with questions like, okay, what do I write about now? What do they want to hear? What will bring a fresh outlook on an old problem? Will they find this an equitable exchange for their time?

When people use phrases like “I truly respect your opinion” and “I have so much trust in you,” it inspires me. Knowing you are able to find something of value in my mad ramblings gives me reason to strive to be the best writer I can. Your encouragement is also humbling in that I know now that you’ve come to expect a certain level of writing from me. And I will strive to deliver nothing less. But I have one favor to ask: please, give me honest feedback about the bad essays as well as the good. My hits and misses. That’s the only way I’ll know that I’m improving.

One of these days if I hit it big (or big enough), it’d be great to do a Medium meet-up, ice cream social, or tequila tasting and rub elbows with you guys. Oh, wait. Maybe that’s what book tours are for.*

Again, Salome (I love that name, by the way) thanks for your time, energy, and thoughtfulness.

* Simon & Schuster, if you’re listening, since that Milo thing fell through, let’s talk. I’m sure we can come up with something just as timely for LOT less money that could possibly bring people together. Let’s talk.
