R. Nash, thank you. I think we — black people, white people, brown people yellow people, everyone — should get tightly wound when hearing these stories as this wasn’t an isolated incident. It happened repeatedly and truly without impunity not so long ago. My hope is that people understand the reason I wrote this was to broaden people’s understanding of what other people’s experiences are like. People don’t have to fully understand what life in Florida was like one hundred years ago, I can’t even fully grasp what it was like then. My hope is that after reading this and the stories of other People of Color, we can have those conversations with increased understanding and move closer to healing.
