Lorraine, there’s any number of reasons a person might go back to the streets; some within their control and many more beyond their control. My suggestion is that since you have a relationship with your friend, spend time with him, offer a prompt (by asking what’s going on or offering support), and give him the space within that time to open up and respond.

It’s easy for friends to inadvertently make conversations about themselves by feeling the need to fill the silence with chatter. If your friend trusts you enough and wants you to know, he’ll share that with you. I hope that helps.
