Leah, I was re-reading your comment and you know what? The story of you, your mom, and Bertha is profound. There are elements of the story that would encourage people to get more involved in matters of race and social justice. Bertha’s far-reaching impact, especially in the racial environment of the mid-twentieth century would speak volumes to people today about how the efforts of one person can ripple out and change the world.

Just a thought.
