This seems like a contradiction because you’re trying to combine two concepts (one of which is not applicable) into one and calling them equal. That’s not the case.

It’s not that People of Color want to be “recognized” or “noted for difference” as People of Color. What we want is for our “color” not to be held against us and used against us like a cudgel. What we want is for those differences not to count as a deficit. What we want is for differences to be embraced. That’s called acceptance. Also known as “treated like a human, equally and no different.”

So you see, they not opposites at all. People of Color aren’t seeking recognition, we’re seeking parity where white culture is deemed normative. Equality should be the coin of the realm.
