John, thanks as always for your time and comments. It just seems so very simple to me: giving consideration to how one’s words might impact someone else isn’t rocket science. Maybe it’s because I’ve experienced well- and ill-meaning people saying some pretty crappy things to me and I know what it’s like to be on the receiving end of that stuff. And that’s motivation enough to strive for mindfulness. It’s the whole ounce of prevention versus a pound of cure thing. With forethought, empathy, care, and respect as the way, the words automatically fall in line … what’s generally in one’s heart comes out of one’s mouth.
Maybe folks should focus on being considerate instead of unconscious bias? Sounds a lot easier, eh? And it’s essentially the same thing.
