I laughed out loud when I read the title of this essay. In fact, I was surprised at how loudly I laughed. I knew exactly where the article was going and you did not disappoint.
That laughter came from the same place as the laughter that accompanies watching someone get hit in the face with a pie. It was the laughter that’s a combination of shock that anyone would actually do that to another person mixed with horror of what’s just happened to an unsuspecting person. Throw in a chortle that one person just stripped away the dignity of another person.
For all the paid leave and impugnity, the only thing that’s missing is a canned laugh track.
Judging from the way the courts handle these shootings, the only thing that keeps the media coverage from being madcap comedies is that the shootings are real. Unfortunately, black bodies don’t rebound quite as well as Wile E. Coyote. But that’s okay, because there’s more black bodies to shoot up tomorrow and the morrow after that.
