Hey Gwen,

So glad you gave the essay a read. I have to clear something up. When I wrote “don’t mind the gap,” I did not write that as a pass for Christians (or anyone for that matter) behaving badly. I wrote that meaning: anyone who desires to get to know God should do so, and not let the hypocrisy of others deter them. As a gay black man, I’m all too aware of the deadly violence against LGBTQ people.

The rise in deadly violence and blind hatred has turned the world upside-down. It’s truly sad that the label “Christian” has become a red flag for all sorts of people. And I think it’s sad, but also wise, to be cautious with anyone until they prove that they are a safe person. At forty-eight inches, that’s simply a part of the way I live. So believe me when I say I hear you loud and clear.

Education is the key for change to take place. Not all Christians are cut from the same cloth. Continue to raise awareness and stay safe.
