D, thanks for taking the time to give this essay your attention. One of the many sad aspects of this incident is that it’s not the only one. America’s past is riddled with them and the effects are still lingering today in the form of continued systemic racism, resentment, distrust, and on and on. I’ve seen people change, so I know it’s possible. Once these events are brought into the light, examined, and discussed in human terms then healing can begin. As for hope … well, we have one of three options: hope, apathy, and despair. Personally, apathy and despair are luxuries I can’t afford.
