Cynthia, thank you for taking the time to give my essay a read. I spoke with someone about the Ocoee terror lynchings just earlier today. There are those who would sweep incidents like terror lynchings under the rug, never to be examined in the full light of day with the benefit of what we know today. The value in examining these incidents is that they continue to provide an accounting of factors that have brought us to the vast economic disparity between people of color and whites.

Also, it seems with every passing day, I ask myself with more frequency, “Wait, how were my parents dealing with this when I was a child? Was I that oblivious to what they were going through?”

Anyway … it galls me now more than ever that my parents, relatives, loved ones — my role models — had to live through this.

Crazy …
