Charles, just so we’re clear, please read the comment directly above yours. Lest I be thought a hard ass, know that I’ve spent much time on those open seas, having my self-image tossed about on the waves of other people’s opinions with no sense of where I was, let alone who I was.

In extreme instances, people can rob of us our self-esteem; but it’s all too common that we gift-wrap one of our most precious commodities and blithely hand it over.
