Allan, I’m a huge fan of your writing. Everything I’ve read of yours, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed. You have a gift for taking a believable premise or situation and blending it with the right about of absurdity such that the humor and insights are natural by-products.

This essay didn’t resonate as satirical with me because, I think, it cut too close to home. The situations you described aren’t that far-fetched or ridiculous at all. At no point was I able to say, only a boob would think or do that, or that person would have to be off their rocker to say that … because in this country and in the U.K., centuries are riddled with people — royals, commoners, and Yanks — who have done, thought, and said things similar to what you’ve mentioned here (and worse) and it wound up costing people their lives. And there’s nothing satirical about that.

You’re much better than this.

Cheers.
